Dr. Dela Cruz was born and raised in Sacramento, California. The start of his veterinary career began at the age of 4 when his Newfoundland rescued him from drowning in the backyard pool. From that time on, his parents say that he was fascinated with the outdoors and quickly developed a connection with animals. He graduated from Sonoma State University in 2014 with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Molecular and Cell Biology and Physiology. After crossing the stage at SSU, he packed his bags for Indiana to start school at Purdue University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. At Purdue University, Dr. Dela Cruz was the Philanthropy Chair of the Student Chapter of the American Veterinary Association. During his second year of Veterinary School, he adopted a black Labrador Retriever and still believes it was the best $17 dollars he ever spent.
After receiving his Doctorate at Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine his job search included 2 criteria. First, he wanted to work for a clinic that focused on offering clients the best medicine. Second, the clinic had to be in California. Dr. Dela Cruz could not be happier living on the central coast and working at Pismo Beach Veterinary Clinic and PETS Hospital.
Outside of work, Dr. Dela Cruz enjoys soaking up the sun with his fiancée Allyson and their dog Charlie. On the weekends the three of them are likely to be on the beach trying to decide what restaurant to try next.
